Gardening with "Anita"

Hi Everyone!

I have a hard time getting used to the idea that winter with all of it's might is just around the corner. So far though we have been blessed with exceptionally nice weather in the Edmonton area. Just think, daytime temperatures in the double digits and virtually just a degree or two of frost at night. Which brings me around to what I want to share with you.

It's important that you take the following steps to ensure the survival of your roses, perennials, trees, and shrubs. You must do this before the hard frost sets in. So, get out there and trickle water around the roots of your perennials, trees, and shrubs over a period of a few days. This ensures that the plants freeze in with a solid ball of ice around their root systems and hopefully this will keep them asleep throughout the roller coaster weather we have been experiencing these past years.
Mulching with peat moss or bark mulch around your roses and perennials is also recommended and can still be carried out as well as incorporating bone meal into the areas where bulbs, roses, shrubs, and perennials have been planted. Lastly consider protecting your cedars with burlap to ward off the browning effect caused by severe winter weather.

Well, enough already and now it's time for you to get to work.
