How Kuhlmann's Has Grown

Kuhlmann's Market Garden & Greenhouses Ltd. was started by Dietrich and Elizabeth Kuhlmann in 1962. A very modest beginning on rented land with only part time help. At that time, Dietrich and Elizabeth operated as a market garden selling mainly "pick your own."

The Kuhlmann's also attended farmers markets and started selling some crops into the wholesale trade; eg: potatoes, cabbage, cucumbers. Dietrich built their first greenhouse for tomato production and some bedding plants in 1970.

Over the next ten years, Dietrich and Elizabeth expanded the bedding plant and vegetable production and sale at their original farm yard. The extra

			plants and vegetables were sold at farmer's markets. In 1982, the Kuhlmann's started a family farm partnership with their two daughters Angela and Anita, and their husbands Dale and Doug.

			The first phase of the present greenhouse and garden centre was built in 1982/83. The facilities were expanded steadily throughout the next 17 years to the present size of 100,000 square feet of greenhouses, plus extensive garden centre and two storage buildings for produce storing and vegetable washing and packaging.
